National Week of Deliberation 2021 - Cross Campus Forums

From Kara Dillard:

April 5th through 10th is the biannual week of college student-focused Common Ground for Action (CGA) deliberative forums.

Five years ago, a cross-discipline group of faculty from the National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) network sought ways to utilize CGA to offer their students a chance to deliberate with peers from other universities in hopes of being exposed to different stories, opinions, and choices. This initiative has grown from students at five universities deliberating for one day to over 250 students across 26 campuses participating in a full week of forums moderated by students.

The National Week of Deliberation is the only national level initiative open to all college students and the opportunities for insightful deliberative moments and civic learning abounds.

“I think that I was able to learn a lot more and see different perspectives I wasn't aware of. A real eye opening experience!”

New this year: Results and insights from this week's forums will be featured in Kettering's A Public Voice program. We will be reporting what students are willing to live with and what choices this key demographic wishes policymakers pursue.

This year, faculty and students from Westmont College Center for Dialogue and Deliberation and James Madison University Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue are partnering to convene and moderate these forums.
