The call is out to make Martin Luther King Day a National Day of Service--"a Day On, Not a Day Off." This year, why not make Martin Luther King Day the day you commit to helping people in your community use a different, more productive way to talk about difficult public issues? The National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) has recently released a new issue guide to help people talk about income inequality as part of a national conversation that will be reported to policymakers in Washington, DC. Titled Making Ends Meet: How Should We Spread Prosperity and Improve Opportunity, the guide is available as a free download.

In addition to marking Martin Luther King Day as a day to start planning to hold a deliberative forum in your community, you can join an online forum on January 18th, to use the Making Ends Meet issue guide to talk with others around the country about this important issue. This is a great chance to become familiar with the issue guide and with the fascinating process of public deliberation. Results of these online forums will also be part of the national report that will be presented to policymakers later this year.

You can learn more about the online forums and RSVP to participate at this blog post. Please join us and make Martin Luther King Day a "Day On, Not a Day Off."
