FORUM OVERVIEW

The community in Albany, Georgia will have this forum to address the concern that many communities have across this nation: How do we reduce gun violence?

Several entities are co-hosting the forum including Commissioner Demetrius Young and the City of Albany, Georgia, SOWEGA Rising (SOWEGAR) and the newly formed group, Dougherty County Concerned Citizens (DCCC). This forum follows recent events held by DCCC and SOWEGAR in response to the mass shootings in Buffalo, New York: Uvalde, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sacramento, California and other other cities.

The forum will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 6:00 pm in the Law Enforcement Center at 201 West Oglethorpe Blvd, Albany, Georgia. This event is free and open to the public. It will also be virtual through zoom and Facebook. All attendees are encouraged to pre-register at the zoom link above.

Albany State University's Lois B. Hollis Center for Social Equity in the Master of Public Administration program will moderate the forum. The center is a partner of the National Issues Forums Institute Network.
