How to Facilitate Productive Conversations on Public Issues

Across the United States and throughout the world, innovative civic practitioners are bringing people with diverse views together in deliberative discussions of public issues that impact our lives. People are crossing traditional barriers to listen deeply, to think critically, and to create foundations for constructive and complementary public work. In this session, we'll examine these practices while sharing insights and resources from the National Issues Forums Institute.

Presenters:

Leslie Garvin, Executive Director of North Carolina Campus Compact, a collaborative network of colleges and universities committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility, partnering with communities for positive change, and strengthening democracy.

Betty Knighton, President of the National Issues Forums Institute, a nonprofit organization that promotes nonpartisan public deliberation and democratic decision-making.
