Dr. Maggie Commins is the Shelton Professor of Political Science at Queens University of Charlotte.

Her research focuses on U.S. immigration policy, immigrant integration (particularly in Charlotte), U.S. policy toward Latin America, civically engaged research, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. She enjoys challenging her students to think clearly, critically, and openly about politics. Commins seeks to mentor her students academically and professionally, and she encourages them to become active citizens, engaged in their communities. Commins tries to model active citizenship through her own civic work in Charlotte, including membership on the Charlotte International Cabinet and the board of the Latin American Coalition. In 2020 Queens honored Commins with their Hunter-Hamilton Love of Teaching Award.
