From a National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) news release - Members of the institute elected Carol Farquhar Nugent president during the institute’s annual meeting in Dayton, Ohio, on December 3, 2015. 

Carol Farquhar Nugent formerly was executive director of Grantmakers in Aging.  

As the organization’s first full-time executive director, she led a rapidly growing nonprofit membership organization for senior staff and trustees from all sizes and types of foundations involved directly or indirectly with aging. Prior to joining Grantmakers in Aging, Nugent held the position of program officer at the Kettering Foundation. 

Nugent is recipient of the National Council on Aging’s Arthur Fleming Award. She was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and was selected as one of Dayton Daily News’ Top Ten Women.

She received her BA from  the McGregor School at Antioch University, Yellow Springs, Ohio.

At the Dec. 3 meeting, NIFI members elected William V. Muse, president of the institute since 2008, to be president emeritus. 

William V. Muse served as president or chancellor of three universities—Auburn, Akron, and East Carolina—over a period of nearly 20 years. He earlier served as the business school dean at Texas A & M, Nebraska, and Appalachian State and as a business school professor at Georgia Tech and Ohio University.

Muse has held a number of national leadership posts, including international president of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and is currently a member of the board of directors of the TKE Educational Foundation. He also serves on the board of the David Mathews Center for Civic Life in Alabama and as chair of the advisory council for the Fuller Center for Housing.

Muse is a native of Mississippi. He received his undergraduate education at Northwestern State University in Louisiana, earning a BS in accounting. He then attended graduate school at the University of Arkansas, receiving an MBA and a PhD in business and administration. Muse and his wife, Marlene, have three children and four grandchildren. Muse resides in Cincinnati, Ohio.
